The Program will include a tribute to the former President of the University of Windsor and a live performance of "Tuesdays with Morrie", to be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 8:00 at the Chrysler Theatre.

Mina Grossman-Ianni is the Honourary Chairperson for the event. Peter Hrastovec and Sharon Colman are co-chairs. Peter is a local lawyer who is heavily involved in community projects and Sharon is President of the ALS Society of Windsor-Essex County.

"Tuesdays with Morrie" by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom, based on a book by Mitch Albom, is directed by Mario Carnevale (Lost in Yonkers, The Graduate, A Christmas Story).

The production stars James Neely as Morrie Schwartz and Clinton Hammond as Mitch Albom.

Dr. Ianni was Dean of the University Law Faculty for nine years and then he was appointed the third president of the University of Windsor, a position he held with a great deal of distinction until his death from ALS in 1997. As President and Vice- Chancellor of the University for more than 13 years, he oversaw a crucial period in the University's development. He influenced affairs of government in many areas but especially as the Chair of the Council of Ontario Universities.

"Tuesdays with Morrie" is about Mitch, an accomplished sports journalist, and Morrie, his former college professor. Sixteen years after Mitch graduates, he sees Morrie on Ted Koppel's Nightline, where Morrie is discussing his battle with Lou Gehrig's disease. Morrie is the same - witty and amazingly upbeat - but over the years, Mitch has become a career-obsessed man who feels a definite lack in his life. After the Nightline interview, the two reconnect and what starts out as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage - a final class in the meaning of life. Tuesdays with Morrie is a magical chronicle of their time together, through which Mitch shares Morrie's lasting gift with the world.

"Tuesdays With Morrie" has become a landmark in the popular culture, first promoted in 1997 on Oprah Winfrey's book club, and then appearing on The New York Times Best Seller list for over five years. Tuesdays With Morrie has been published in 34 countries, in 30 languages with over 11 million copies in print.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the ALS Society of Windsor-Essex County and 12.13 Productions.
